“Let every pedal stroke lead you to yourself.”
Liz was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio. As an actress and trained dancer in almost every style, she moved to NYC to pursue her performance dreams. She has performed domestically and abroad with the likes of Kanye West and Pharrell and as a Brooklyn Nets Dancer. In between performance jobs, she discovered a passion for health, fitness and motivating others. Liz brings a class filled with positive vibes, a contagious smile and a non-stop dance party. Her class will motivate you to exceed your expectations and love yourself for it.
How did you become involved in SoulCycle?
SoulCycle had always been something that I heard about here and there, but It wasn’t a frequent workout for me. Then, I had a friend who was in the instructor training program, and I took her first community ride. That was where I met some really cool recruitment people who asked me if I would be interested in training. I thought, “I’ll give it a shot!” And I fell in love, the rest is history.
In what ways do you get your get your students inspired to achieve their best goals? Are there certain mantras, quotes, or visions you use to so your students really get the ‘soul’ out of your class?
I try to come up with new motivational words every class. I try to just be honest with how I’m feeling that day and what will motivate me in that moment. I find that when you can say something true to you, others can usually relate.
What’s your favorite part about being a trainer?
Being surrounded by happy people. Natural endorphins. Seeing growth in riders and hearing that they reached their goals. Maybe someone wants to lose some weight, or maybe someone is dealing with anxiety or a major loss in their life. It brings me so much joy to hear that my class is helping them on their journey.
Who’s your favorite artist and what’s your favorite songs that really get your classes pumping?
I play a lot of Missy Elliott. I think she may be my spirit animal. She’s super creative, urban, funky yet feminine; and her sound gives me a certain nostalgia that makes me want to move. But honestly I love music. In my class you’ll hear everything from Jay-Z to Nirvana, Prince to Big Pun. I’m also a late 80’s baby, so my class reflects the sounds of my adolescence.
What’s a personal goal you have for yourself, and where do you get your inspiration?
I’m such a Gemini, my personal goals are always changing. I’m a freelance dancer and actress so I’m constantly working on booking my next project. I always strive to be productive everyday whether I need to just do laundry and grocery shop or go take dance class, submit photos to casting directors or work on songs or monologues. I’m inspired by everything beautiful… Art, poems, books, my riders…But strong, powerful women tug my heartstrings the most. Whenever I’m feeling down, I call my mom, or read quotes and stories about the women I admire most.
What’s your diet like?
I’m a foodie. I worked in restaurants for years, and I lived in Asia for a year. I think this has made my palate super diverse. With that being said, I’ll try almost anything. However my day to day diet is relatively clean, and I’m mostly vegetarian (occasional poultry and fish). I don’t deprive myself of anything, life is way too short to not eat a slice of pizza or a cupcake! My general philosophy is: keep it clean, use your common sense and indulge in moderation.
For someone who has never taken a SoulCycle class, what would you say to them?
Just try it!! Just try it! JUST TRY IT! SoulCycle has changed my life and I want to share it with everyone.
